CAR GARAGE | Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet (2012) | Although Volkswagen is using a fabric top on the Golf, the four-cheater is one of the quietest of cabriolets. The results: the Golf Cabriolet actually sets new standards for acoustics in cabriolets. The soft top Itself consists of a linkage, a roof liner, insulating filler throughout and exterior cover layer. Perfection in aerodynamics: mounted Between the longitudinal frames of the top linkage are a total of 4 roof cross bows and the so-called front roof bow (the first large transverse element behind the windscreen frame). In turn, the soft top is joined to the roof bows fastened by screw-retention fabric strips. Consequently, even at higher speeds, the fabric roof does not fill with water. When the roof is stowed, the upper surface of the front roof bow covers the top surface of the storage box. The results: the standard fully-automatic elector-hydraulic top opens (9.0 seconds) and and Closes (11.0 seconds) faster. The top is operated from a central switch on the center console. Unlatching and latching of the Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet's soft top is handled by an electromechanical locking system. It operates fully automatically.
Rollover protection: Since 1979, when the first Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet was Presented, all generations of models of this series have had a roll bar. This changed in 2003, when Volkswagen New Beetle Cabriolet Presented with the rollover protection That Could be deployed from behind the rear seats. The system was modified for the Eos, and - in its latest development stage - it now Protects occupants of the Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet as well. The rollover protection element Implemented in the Golf races upward behind the rear headrests within 0:25 seconds of the vehicle Exceeding a predefined transverse acceleration or tilt angle. The system's rollover two modules consist of one fixed and one moveable aluminum profile aluminum profile within it that is pretension ed with a spring. While it shoots upward, a detente support overruns a toothed track mounted to the inner profile and prevents the inner profile from dropping downward. The highlights of the redesigned system for the Golf: the two deplorable modules were designed to be significantly more compact.

Air-to-air inter cooling increases the intake charge density. The adoption of a reinforced steel crankshaft with pistons and con-rods allows the use of a Relatively high 9.5: 1 compression ratio, Despite higher stresses and loads. Under-skirt piston cooling oil jets and exhaust valves are sodium filled with further measures to Ensure durability under higher internal temperatures. All 1.4 Turbo models come equipped as standard with Start / Stop, Helping Them Achieve competitively low emissions of Between 140-142g/km, depending upon wheels / tires fitted. The most powerful engine in the Vauxhall Astra GTC's line-up Produces 180PS and achieves a specific output of just over 100ps per liter. A map-based thermostat control raises the coolant temperature at low engine speeds, or under light loads, to help internal lubricant friction Reduced fuel consumption and improve.
Much of the development centered around the introduction to the GTC of Vauxhall's HiPerStrut, a first for an Astra model. Adding the HiPerStrut has also reduced the amount of camber change on the GTC's front wheels during cornering, improving grip. Steering feel is enhanced, too, helped by a reduction the steering system's friction levels. The current Astra Hatch has always handled exceptionally well," said Michael Harder, Vehicle Dynamics Supervisor at Opel. "But with the GTC, we've raised the bar still further.
